Reimagining Our Expansion Plan: Kono
At OneVillage Partners, we have long been committed to transforming lives in rural Sierra Leone through sustainable community-led development. Since our establishment as a National NGO in 2016, we have made significant strides in health, education, and agriculture, uplifting communities in the Kenema and Kailahun districts. As we continue on this journey, we are excited to announce the expansion of our impact into the Kono District this October 2024, as part of our strategic growth plan.
However, a recent development has raised some confusion regarding our role in the region. A newly launched government initiative in Kono bears a similar name to our organization, which may have led to misunderstandings about our programs. While the government’s agri-business and savings cooperative program also focuses on community development, it operates independently from our initiatives. We have been informed that the name of this project will change, so that we can operate unencumbered.
As we continue to deepen our relationships with local leaders in Kono, it is important to distinguish between the new government initiative and our proven, long-standing presence in Sierra Leone. Our programs, particularly the Nurturing Opportunities for Women (NOW) initiative, empower women with resources and training to improve their livelihoods. By 2026, we aim to positively impact 1,000 women in Kono
By working hand-in-hand with the people of Kono and engaging local stakeholders, we ensure that every step we take aligns with their specific needs. Our mission to enhance collective well-being is far from a one-size-fits-all approach—it’s built on listening, learning, and adapting to the unique contexts of each community.
We invite you to stay connected with our journey into Kono.
