Did you know that 90% of community development projects are still useful after five years in operation?
Rooted in the principles of communities driving their own development, our approach focuses on creating lasting impacts that transcend generations. One of the communities that perfectly embodies this vision is Jokibu.
Before we were OneVillage Partners, we began our work in 2010 with humanitarian aid efforts, such as fixing roofs in rural communities. Jokibu, located in rural eastern Sierra Leone with just over 1,500 people, was one of those communities. Since those early days, Jokibu has been a focal point of our collaborative initiatives and community-driven projects, witnessing remarkable transformations.
From agricultural improvements to healthcare initiatives and educational advancements, the journey of Jokibu reflects the essence of our approach. In 2022, Jokibu's community members continued their development by participating in the NOW program. With a 56% literacy rate, the community achieved a 100% graduation rate from the program. The women's determination to create financial empowerment and uplift their community was remarkable.
Through facilitated community meetings and participatory decision-making processes, residents of Jokibu have taken ownership of their development priorities. This empowerment has not only enhanced their quality of life but also cultivated a sense of pride and resilience within the community.
The sustainability of our interventions in Jokibu is evident in various aspects of community life. Through training programs on sustainable farming practices, we have bolstered local agriculture, ensuring food security and economic stability. Our healthcare initiatives have improved access to essential services, leading to better health outcomes for residents. The educational advancements have opened new opportunities for the youth, laying a strong foundation for the future.
Our journey with Jokibu emphasizes our long-term commitment to community development. Beyond short-term projects, we focus on building capacity and fostering leadership within the community.
